The history here is incredible. This is a super important place to the Spanish-language.
It was built in the 1400s. 2018 will mark of the 800th anniversary of the university's construction.
They even have the original confirmation of the foundation of the university. In the year 1243. That is because the university was founded before this site was built.
This very old library has 2,805 written works. The oldest dates to the 11th century! It is housed inside the University of Salamanca.
It is amazing that this university is still in use, and has been in use for so long. Check out what the old desks used to look like.!
I continue to be amazed by the size of these cathedrals! How did they build something like this so long ago? And how long did it take? It really shows how powerful the catholic church was.
This set of pictures is the new cathedral. There is even a forearm of a famous priest from Salamanca. You can see it in the last picture here.
It is interesting to see the difference between new and old.
The art is especially noticeable. The frescoes in the old part, are noticeably older and the style is different. It is more two dimensional, where as the new cathedral has more three dimensional sculptures and side chapels.
